The adventure begins

And so begins the journey of a lifetime, a bucket list trip that Michael and I spoke about on our first date – an African Safari! 🐘🐆🦁🦓🦛🦏🐊

I mean over 10 years together, 5 of those married, a dog, a house purchase and a multitude of adventures previously, it’s about time we ticked off another life achievement. Let’s see if we survive this one 🤪

I feel like a kid at Christmas! Although it’s certainly a mixture of nerves and excitement! Somehow we managed a good nights sleep ahead of the final last minute things that needed doing.

First thing was taking Bentley to the boarder for his holiday – he’s a pampered pooch with a not so great previous experience in kennels which we vowed to never do again. Thankfully, our dog walker recommended a home boarder which Bentley fell in love with during his trial run. He was a bit anxious to be dropped off and I held back all emotion until he had gone in with his tail wagging.

Not long after we received this photo which means he’s already taken his usual position of master of the house!

We know he will be loved, fussed and pampered as if he was at home plus group walks with lots of other pups for the next 2 weeks ❤️

We cheered me up with a McDonald’s breakfast (with the excuse of needing fuel for a long day) then it was the final bits to try and squeeze into our bags, no guesses for who it was finding these last minute things 🙊

First mode of transport down – uber to the train station! Train from Flitwick to Farringdon and then swap to the tube and head on the Elizabeth line to Heathrow!

A cancelled tube and a 15 minute delay, I’d class that as a pretty successful trip down to Heathrow!

We were about 45 minutes early to check our bags, but of course first in line as soon as the gate was announced, I’ll put it down to excitement and wanting to relax in the lounge!

We sat and watched the planes land, ate some food and mentally prepared ourselves for the overnight flight. Our flight was delayed by about half an hour due to a medical emergency on the inbound flight, we boarded quickly, got comfortable and settled down for the evening. Note to Michael, I can’t fly long haul in anything less than business, you’ve spoilt me!

Dinner was served quickly, think they knew we just wanted to try and get some shut eye! It was also so good! Roast beef shin at 30,000 feet 😋😋

We then made our beds and tried to get some shut eye, with the adventures starting proper tomorrow!
