The First Caravanning Adventure

To the seaside

And boy was the sun shining!! 🌞🌞

We had been very lucky with the weather so far this trip, with the only dip being yesterday and it being mainly overcast, but today was looking (and feeling) like a scorcher!

It was bittersweet this morning, leaving the Peak District behind but knowing we still had another 5 nights of fun and adventure ahead of us was amazing, we just had to get there!

Leaving Castleton

We were ready to leave at bang on 10am, even managing to enjoy a coffee before tackling the important jobs such as disconnecting the electrics and water, packing the remaining items into the car and battoning down the hatches!

I even had time to watch some of the London Marathon! Don’t worry, I’ve entered the ballot for at least the last 10 years with no success! I can barely run 5km let alone a marathon!

And then we were on the road, we had written down the roads we needed to take and both roughly knew the route we had planned. The big thing to focus on was to get out of Castleton, through Hope and Bamford and onto the A57 towards Sheffield.

Did we make it without any problems….. yes we did! Onto the A57 without a hitch! Its like we tried to plan ahead more or something 🤪

We didn’t quite realise that the A57, went straight through Sheffield rather than the outskirts as we had assumed, but Michael took a trip down memory lane as we drove through which was nice.

We were soon on the M1 for a junction, followed by the M18 and then the M180. About an hour away from Mabelthorpe and that’s when the A roads would begin!

The A18 to the A16 was smooth sailing and included a lay-by relief break for all occupants! No photos to save all our dignities!

We then joined the A157 and followed this into Mablethorpe. The satnav had tried to divert us off onto some, let’s call them smaller roads, but we stuck by our guns and ignored it!

Golden Sands

We got to site at just gone 1pm, traffic and weather both remaining on our side! We set up and went to explore – as we love a bargain we are staying at Haven Golden Sands on a fully serviced pitch in their touring park!

We booked the fully serviced hardstanding pitch, not really knowing what that would entail but we have everything we need, electric, water and waste plus loads of space between the pitches and we have no one on the pitch next to us so it feels like we have even more space!

Sunshine and a first look around

After setting up we relaxed and enjoyed the sun, taking two different approaches, one turned into a lizard and followed the sun and one stayed mainly in the shade!

We checked out the facilities (toilet/shower block) and quickly agreed we probably wouldn’t be using them 🫣 lucky we have everything we need on board! They weren’t the worst we had come across, but only 3 of the 4 showers in the men’s were working and there’s no need to add unnecessary stress – we can do everything from the comfort of our van.

We have since found another block of loos and showers but they are on the other side of the camping field which is a small trek!

We then popped across to the local Tesco to pick up some more supplies before exploring the rest of the Haven site.

It felt quite busy for a Sunday at the end of the Easter holidays up here, but we are assuming most go back to school next week and therefore it could quieten down. As we were out, we had to check how far away we were from the beach!

Fingers crossed this weather is here to stay 🤞🏼

We then headed back for burgers and to carrying on with the motto for the next 5 days, which is chill 👌🏼
